We are proud to field a dedicated all-volunteer staff of coaches. We pride ourselves on coaching fundamentals of the game and teaching skills our athletes can carry on throughout their lives.

Eryn Carl

16u B

Coach Eryn grew up in the Middle River area and played rec ball through the middle river system. She was a 4 year varsity starter at Eastern Tech and went on to play 4 years at Salisbury University. During her tenure there as a player, she saw 4 trips to the Div III College world series, we were 4 time CAC Champions and 4 time Regional Champions. She played under the late Margie Knight, who was inducted into the NFCA hall of fame in 2018. She coached 24 seasons at SU with an overall record of 846-209-2. While her records and numerous accolades were impressive and spoke for themselves, the way she treated her players and the life lessons taught along the way will always be her biggest achievements. She is who Coach Eryn model's her coaching style after. After she completed her time as a player at SU, she stayed on as an assistant coach for an additional year. She is now in her 5th year as a travel softball coach and also coaches at Perry Hall High School. In addition to coaching the 16u B and C team, she also runs the Honeygo Travel Program alongside Don Keener and Jason Carl. Coach Eryn believes firmly that she is more than just a coach and this is more than just a game. Lessons learned on the field will carry you through life, friendships, relationships, careers and leadership roles. Her job is to teach, develop and prepare young ladies for not only softball, but life in general, in high school, college and beyond. Her coaching philosophy is simple: Be the person you needed. Whether that be on the field or off. For her teams, the field is a safe place and the team is a family. Between the lines is where you can forget about the stresses of life and just be a kid. While winning is important, it is not everything. As long as we are developing and getting better, we are succeeding.

Nick Miskelly

16u C Blue

Coach Nick has long been a student of the game and enjoys passing that love, passion, and enjoyment of the game onto the young ladies that he coaches. Coach Nick grew up in the White Marsh / Perry Hall area and played baseball through the White Marsh system. Coach Nick also played ball in high school while attending Archbishop Curley. After high school, he started playing softball socially as well as on competitive tournament teams winning multiple championships including back-to-back Maryland State Championship in 2012 (voted Offensive MVP) and 2013. After over 30 years of playing, Coach Nick stepped away from playing the game to get involved in youth sports as his children started playing various sports. He is very passionate about teaching young athletes how to play the game with a fun-loving energy that not only supports the growth and success of the athletes and teams but reminds them that softball is a game, and it should be enjoyed and played with a smile. Most recently, Coach Nick has been coaching for the Honeygo Hurricanes. In addition to coaching one of the Honeygo 14U teams, he also coached a 12U team over the summer and currently assists Coach Eryn with the 16U team. While coaching, he has created a culture that players love to be part of with an approach that not only improves individual skills but also teaches the young ladies the importance of working hard to achieve team goals and being a great teammate. Coach Nick models his coaching style after many past and current coaches. It is important to know how to connect with the players and be there to help support them, not just on their softball journey, but also help provide them the confidence and skills to carry with them throughout their entire lives. He believes that he has gotten where he is in life thanks to those who took the time to coach (teach) him over the years and really enjoys returning the favor as a coach today. You will often find Coach Nick running around in a crazy hat and funny shorts or singing and dancing with the team. He does this because he wants his team to remember that, above all else, that building a winning team starts with creating a fun, family atmosphere with a team that enjoys being with each other and wants to play hard for their collective success. The team follows his lead in raising each other up and creating an enjoyable culture that players from other teams and organizations want to join.

Matt Gaines

12u C

Coach Matt has been a coach with the Hurricanes for 4 years beginning in 8U and now 12U. The same core girls return year after year. They started as a bunch of new 7 and 8 year olds playing 10U Rec All-Star for a couple years, to a 12C last year, and hopefully a 12B team this year. Watching them grow and develop as ball players, teammates, and people is more important than anything else. They work hard and have become great friends on and off the field. Baseball has been part of Coach Matt’s life since he could walk! His love for the game started early, playing catch in the backyard with his dad, to rec ball, and finally traveling the Mid-Atlantic playing club ball through high school. When he was done playing baseball it was a natural transition to playing and coaching softball. It continues to this day, passing his love for the game to his family and the Hurricanes. Softball has both unbelievable highs and heartbreaking lows. They can happen over a season, weekend, or over the course of a single game. Managing these peaks and valleys helps us grow and teaches us skills that can be used all our lives. Many things are within your control but not everything, so you practice and prepare the best you can for whatever may happen. To be the best player you can be, you strive and work hard on your own in the backyard, in the basement, watching videos, and at individual lessons. All this will help you to throw harder, run faster, and hit further. But the reason you do all that work on your own is to get better so you can share that with your teammates and become the best team you can be together. That’s where the urricanes, coach Matt, assistant coaches, and parent volunteers put it all together. Collectively we are invested in the growth and development of these girls. We all have our part to play. We practice hard and of course we have a lot of fun along the way. We all like to win but we will never win them all, so cherish it when it happens and work harder for the next one.
